The ability to identify individual chromosomes in cytological preparations is an essential component of many investigations. While several computer software applications have been used to facilitate such quantitative karyotype analysis, most of these programs are limited by design for specific types of analyses, or can be used only with specific hardware configurations. MicroMeasure is a new image analysis application that may be used to collect data for a wide variety of chromosomal parameters from electronically captured or scanned images. Unlike similar applications, MicroMeasure may be individually configured by the end user to suit a wide variety of research needs. This program can be used with most common personal computers, and requires no unusual or specific hardware. MicroMeasure is made available to the research community without cost by the Department of Biology at Colorado State University via the World Wide Web at http://www.biology.colostate.edu/MicroMeasure.
The simultaneous and unequivocal discernment of all human chromosomes in different colors would be of significant clinical and biologic importance. Whole-genome scanning by spectral karyotyping allowed instantaneous visualization of defined emission spectra for each human chromosome after fluorescence in situ hybridization. By means of computer separation (classification) of spectra, spectrally overlapping chromosome-specific DNA probes could be resolved, and all human chromosomes were simultaneously identified.
VideoTesT-Karyo is a powerful software designed to be used in cytogenetics providing the user with capabilities for automatic karyotyping of human chromosomes stained by different techniques (G, Q), and manual karyotyping of animal and plant chromosomes for both routine analysis and scientific research.
Main capabilities:
Acquisition of metaphase plate images by using camera, scanner, by opening from disk.
Source image enhancement, annotation.
Working with G, Q staining.
Interactive chromosome detection, automatic separation of crossing and overlapping chromosomes.
Automatic karyotyping of human chromosomes. Easy training of chromosome classifier by using customer's samples.
Manual karyotyping of animal and plant chromosomes.
Comparing chromosomes with ideograms for more precious analysis. Three databases of standard human chromosome ideograms available (400, 550 and 850 bands).
Databases of standard chromosome ideograms of mouse, rat, chicken, cattle, sheep, pig.
Possibility to add ideogram databases of other animals and plants.
Easy-to-use ideogram building tool.
